What is meant by healthy cookware ?

You might be asking yourself if the concept of “healthy cookware and utensils” is legitimate or if it is just a void marketing argument.

I am here to help you make sense of that.

What is meant by healthy is cookware that is not harmful to the body. Some cookware contains endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, and other toxic substances.

Healthy cookware is, therefore, one made of harmless materials.

Also, it is good to know that by “cookware and utensils”, I refer to any recipient or tool used to cook, heat, serve, keep or transform food.

I include baby bottles in that as well. Generally speaking, one must be very careful of the recipients used by newborns and children.

In addition to that, some materials might be safe in one state and dangerous in another. For example, when heated.

Very few regulations and certifications exist in the domain of cookware materials. However, it is best to choose the safest alternatives possible.

If you stumbled on this blog, you must be asking yourselves questions about your cookware and utensils. Let me tell you a little about this topic and what inspired me to write about it.

My late grandmother often said: “Health enters through the mouth”. She meant that the food you eat and its nutrients determine your overall health and strength.

And I think everyone has, at least at an intuitive level, a notion of this universal truth.

The process of cooking itself is an art. It is akin to alchemy or magic. Ingredients are prepared and transformed in ways that make them unrecognizable in taste and look.

Think of the process of baking bread and how mixing as little as three simple ingredients – flour, water and yeast – brings forth a new product that is digestible and gives energy and comfort to the person eating, which is bread.

Therefore, the instruments used in the process are as important as the ingredients themselves when making healthy food. Utensils and cookware often transmit their shape, heat and even small particles to the meal. And in-fine to us. And that’s why we must be sure of the harmless nature of such tools.

Beyond the aesthetic and practical aspects of cookware, you must consider the potential toxicity and health hazards when choosing your cookware.
